Use Microshifting to Expand Your Space

Micro-shifting is a clever technique for creating a larger than life stereo image that is extra wide. Simply start by taking one stereo track and pan it in the center. Next, duplicate the track twice so you now have three versions, and apply a pitch shifting plugin on both copies.

Now, use the pitch shifter plugins to pitch one copy down a few cents (5-10 cents is common) and pitch the other copy up the same amount of cents. Next, pan one copy hard left and hard right. That's micro-shifting.

Listen to the three tracks back in stereo to hear your newly widened stereo image.
