ADSR Explained

Understanding Envelope Parameters is essential to understand when it comes to shaping sounds.

Attack

  • After pressing the key, the attack is the amount of time it takes for the volume to go from silent to the loudest level.

Decay

  • The Decay is the amount of time it takes from the loudest point of the attack, to the sustain level. 

Sustain

  • The Sustain is the constant level of your sound after the decay and until the release.

Release

  • The release is the amount of time it takes for the sound to reach “silence” after the note / key has been released.
